This tool is very powerful. It allows you to enter, extend and/or modify large amounts of data simultaneously. When you open one of the tools, you will find a large input field at the top where you can enter the object IDs (GUSID) of the collection objects to be inserted or modified, one per line. This may seem cumbersome at first glance, but on second thought it is very efficient.
You can work with barcode scanners just like at a supermarket checkout. Imagine one hundred specimens from the same locality that you want to record. First, attach a label for initial registration to all your specimens. These can be conveniently generated from the collection management system. Then, within a few seconds, scan all objects with identical properties. In our example, all objects with the same locality and the same event (date of discovery, finder). Assign the properties and insert the objects into the collection management system. The collection objects are now created.
You can then regroup and scan all specimens with the same container size, storage location, identical minerals, etc., and assign the corresponding properties. The object IDs (GUSID) can also be assembled via selections within the management interface.
It is often desirable to insert multiple collection objects with identical information. To do this, you can capture the GUSIDs from the initial labelling of your collection objects line by line using a QR code scanner, and then enter data in the remaining fields that is identical for all objects you wish to add.
This is often the locality or an event. The objects can then be supplemented individually at a later stage.
The option “
Insert multiple objects” can be found in the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines in the top left).
You have the following options:
